Elizabeth Caley is a director at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, a new kind of philanthropic organization that works to advance human potential and promote equal opportunity through world-class engineering, grant-making, impact investing, policy, and advocacy work. Elizabeth co-leads Meta, the part of Chan Zuckerberg dedicated to accelerating discoveries by connecting the world’s researchers to all scientific knowledge. Powered by machine learning, Meta is a real-time discovery tool that helps researchers read, analyze, prioritize, and draw insights across millions of scientific papers. Meta is free for researchers worldwide. Prior to Meta’s acquisition by Chan Zuckerberg in February 2017, Elizabeth was the company’s Chief Operating Officer. Fascinated by how good ideas become great products, Elizabeth has built and led successful, fast-growing teams at global software companies including Microsoft, Hummingbird (OpenText), and Firmex. Elizabeth has MBAs from University of Toronto and University of St. Gallen and is an active member of the technology and research communities, regularly contributing as a mentor, advisor, and speaker.
